President's Message (Cambridge Minor Lacrosse)

PrintPresident's Message

I would like to welcome everyone to our upcoming 2021 season. The 2021 season will be CMLA’s 19th season as a lacrosse organization!

We all know how Covid-19 affected the world in 2020.  So many people were affected by this terrible pandemic and lacrosse was no exception.  We lost a whole season which was disappointing for so many.  We are committed to coming out of this even stronger and to making 2021 a memorable season for all.

Lacrosse challenges our players, coaches and volunteers. It builds character and strength throughout the entire experience of the game.  This sport teaches our players confidence, leadership, and provides the skills they will use now and throughout their lives.  Our players are vital to our community and continue to give back by volunteering with the younger players, returning as Coaches, Trainers and Board members once their playing days are completed.  As always, we are focused on making sure the experience is a positive one for all.

The 2021 season will mark the last season that Cambridge Lacrosse will be known as the “Chiefs”.  At the AGM in October 2020, we announced that we will be kicking off an initiative to find a new name and logo.  The Board of Director’s felt strongly that it was the right decision to change the Chiefs nickname and logo out of respect for the Indigenous community and culture who invented this great game that we love so much. The new name will take effect for 2022 season.

We are extremely excited about the upcoming season! We have already begun planning the 2021 season.  We are working on a few new programs and partnerships. |For example, before Covid-19 struck everyone in 2020 we are ready to reintroduce a house league program partnering with other Zone 8 associations, we will be working hard to make sure that this happens in 2021. More info to come, stay tuned to our website for more details and exciting announcements about house league and other programs.

CMLA is fortunate to have so many dedicated and passionate people working on behalf of our players.  This season we have 15 Board members working hard behind the scenes to create a safe and exciting lacrosse experience for all our players at all levels of play.  We are dedicated to growing the game and making CMLA be competitive at the highest level possible.

I would like to thank all our extraordinary coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, managers, and board members, as well as many of our parents and players for all the time and effort put into our Chiefs Family.  Without you none of this would be possible and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2021!

Throughout the season we will send out updates on other exciting events. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well as visiting our website for more information at:
