Field Lacrosse Registration Update

CMLA will be offering field lacrosse for all age divisions except U17 for the upcoming Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League season. The survey results have demonstrated that there is enough interest to go forward with registration for the divisions (U9-U15).

CMLA will determine viability of each age group based on the number of registered players and coaches. There is a deadline of early February to communicate plans to registered players based on the interest in each age division for the spring 2017 season. This should allow players enough time to register with other associations as indicated.

There are a few things to consider for players that have been playing or intend on playing for surrounding lacrosse associations.

1. Any player in the U9-U15 division that has played for less than 3 years with another field lacrosse association must register with CMLA if the player's age division is being offered by CMLA.

2. Any player that has played 3 or more years with another lacrosse association can register with their previous club or CMLA.

3. There are boundary rules for each new player which are determined by proximity to other lacrosse centres. If CMLA is not able to field a team in your son or daughter's age division, then the OMFLL(Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League) determines where your son/ daughter should register based on boundary rules that are stated within the OLA Rules and Regulations.

MR2.08(b)A player who is eligible but resident in a municipality with no minor team in any group for which he is eligible, shall sign with the club which is the next closest centre. The distance shall be measured from the player’s residence to the two or more municipalities concerned, by the shortest route (excluding toll roads) and by mileage shown on the search engine dictated for OLA registrations for the current playing season. Such player must return to his own municipality the next year of play.

MR2.08(c)After two (2) consecutive attempts to return and there being no minor team in any group for which he is eligible, he shall remain a member of the club for which he had previously signed.

Note: CMLA will be communicating with other surrounding associations during registration. It is important to register before the deadline to allow CMLA to make decisions that accurately reflect the interest in each age division.
